The Tampa Bay Lightning have been taking advantage of home cooking lately at Amalie Arena and have cemented themselves as one of the best teams in the NHL on home ice.
With Tuesday’s 4-2 win over Minnesota, Tampa Bay improved to 18-4-1 at home this season. The mark is the second best record at home in the NHL behind only the Boston Bruins who have just lost once all season in regulation on home ice.
Interestingly enough, the third best home record in the NHL belongs to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tampa Bay and Toronto are almost guaranteed to meet in round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, the home ice advantage likely does not mean too much to Tampa Bay after winning the seven game series against Toronto last year while on the road.
The record at home for the Lightning has been a significant factor in the Lightning being one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference despite being around a .500 team on the road.
Tuesday’s win marked the 10th win in a row at home, one shy of the franchise record of 11.

The 10th straight win was capped off by Steven Stamkos scoring the game winning goal on the night in which he was recognized for scoring his 500th goal. The goal did not look like too many of his other 500 plus goals but they all count just the same.
