Steven Stamkos recorded the 1,000th point of his NHL career Thursday night in Philadelphia as the Lightning went on to defeat the Flyers 4-1 to conclude their three game road trip.

Stamkos recorded the secondary assist on Nick Paul’s second period goal which would go on to be the game winner. The assist was surely the most memorable secondary assist of his career.

The entire Lightning bench emptied to congratulate their captain on becoming the first player in franchise history to reach the mark.

The assist made Stamkos the 95th player in NHL history to reach 1,000 points and just the eighth active player to do so. Among those eight active players, Stamkos is only the fifth to do so in under 1,000 games. Stamkos did so in career game 945.

After arriving in Tampa as an 18 year in 2008, Stamkos’ career has had the ultimate ups and downs. From setting the league on fire and scoring 60 goals to facing multiple significant injuries and coming so close to winning it all in years’ past, Stamkos has been through everything imaginable.

The adversity he has faced along the way makes the accomplishments of finally winning the Stanley Cup and reaching 1,000 points even sweeter.

Thursday’s milestone also comes as Stamkos is just six goals shy of 500 career goals, which will also surely be coming soon. The accomplishments just keep coming for the Lightning captain as he continues to re-write the franchise record books.
