Steven Stamkos recorded two goals and assist, including the overtime winner Monday night against the Buffalo Sabres. The three point night brought Stamkos to 998 career points with a chance to reach the 1,000 point milestone Tuesday night in Boston.

When Stamkos does reach the milestone, he will become just the eighth active player to have 1,000 career points and just the fifth of those players to do so in under 1,000 career games played.

Tuesday night will be Stamkos’ 944th game in the NHL which would make the accomplishment even more impressive while being a well over a point-per-game player. He likely would have reached the mark sooner if not for missing significant time over his career due to injury.

The overtime winner on Monday night was also the 493rd goal of Stamkos career, bringing the 500 goal mark even closer as well.

Along with 500 goals coming up soon, Stamkos will also reach 1,000 games this season as well if he stays healthy. So, to say this year will be full of milestones for the Lightning captain would be an understatement.

If Stamkos is to reach 1,000 points on Tuesday in Boston, the moment would become quite ironic after Bruins’ captain, Patrice Bergeron recorded his 1,000th point last week against the Lightning in Tampa.

A multi point night on the second game of a back-to-back against a Bruins team who has not lost at home yet this season will be difficult, but would be perfect as far as hockey karma is concerned.
